Mars Comet Review
Holy silly space shenanigans, Sheryl! Strap me down, Saturn! Those out-of-this-world dudes from Mars have launched their brand-new cosmic Comet into the intergalactic camper scene – the Mars Comet Camper, that is! The brand-spanking new Comet teardrop camper is the Cutie-Pie of the camper crew with the pledge and appeal to "boldly go where no camper's gone before!"
On a more serious note, the all-new Comet opens up travelling in comfort and style for folks with smaller or suburban vehicles. The Comet's comfy on paved roads, but it still easily gets you in and out of most formal camping spots. It's way more than just a comfortable bed in a tough shell – the Comet's a pretty complete mobile home with heaps more creature comforts than any lunar module.
Teardrop campers certainly aren't new. I remember some cool old plywood ones being towed behind old EK and FB Holdens back in the day – that's a loooong time ago. But the idea has seen a significant resurgence lately with folks looking for small, self-contained pods for easy travel and compact storage. Everywhere we went with the Comet in tow, heads turned. It felt like a scene from an old Gidget or Elvis movie on the beachside with the colourful bathing boxes in the background. Cowabunga dudes!!! (I guess my imagination is running wild, again!)
Nostalgia aside, this Comet is well fitted with all the mod cons. Don't get me wrong; the Comet isn't built or marketed as some brawny off-roader. In fact, it's a more laid-back freedom machine for folks with mid-range 2WD tow vehicles with towing capacity up to 1200kg—and that's a big chunk of folks who've been limited by weight.
The Snail Shell

The Comet has an insulated, composite shell on a hot-dipped galvanised trailer, and loads of features are packed into its compact size. A standard 50mm ball coupling (80kg ball weight) with a swing-down jockey wheel, Anderson Plug connection, and a handbrake for the 10" electric brakes is up front. This allows for a 1200kg ATM and a tare weight of 760kg.

I hooked the Comet up to my Hi-Lux and she travelled easily with only about half the towing weight of most popular forward-fold campers. The Comet tracked well on the road with its independent rubberised suspension and 13" wheels. I was surprised by the 13" tyres since they're less common nowadays, but entirely suitable. Underneath are four wind-down stabiliser legs and the spare wheel. There's a 70 x 50 x 3mm A-frame drawbar up front with space for a jerry can, a 9kg gas bottle on either side, and a lockable utility box for tools and storage. These also act as a bit of protection for the fibreglass composite shell.
What's Inside?

Unlock the side door, and you'll find a really nice interior! The general feel is actually very inviting. It incorporates attractive upholstery, some rich textures and chic laminate trims is a surprisingle large space. If you're having trouble getting your partner to go camping, maybe check out the Comet – things might change.
Inside is a comfy, compact U-shaped seating area with a drop-down table that could host a little party. You can remove the table for outdoor use or drop it down to include in the base for a Queen-size bed. There's decent headroom, LED mood lighting, a 21" TV in the rear wall, heater/AC, and a decent Bluetooth sound system.
Watch your videos, listen to some music, or watch the footy as you continue your travels to a happy place.
There is some cupboard storage, but not tons. I liked the interior layout, especially the bedside cabinet with a flat surface and shelf for stuff like water, glasses, a book, or charging your phone with the USB and HDMI ports. There is an electrical control centre for entertainment (radio and TV), lighting, fan, as well as indicators for the water level, solar regulator, 240 and 12 volt power and climate control. It combines a 45 litre polyethelene water tank, plus a 100 AH AGM battery and an AC charger as standard.
I should mention that the main electrical circuit board is a bit exposed. I'd like a cover over it to prevent short-outs when loading stuff on top.

Cosy Interior with Smart Ventilation
I thought the Comet might feel a bit claustrophobic, but it was actually quite the opposite—it felt warm and cosy. The front and roadside have opening windows for light and ventilation, both with sliding awnings and flyscreens.
The lockable doorway is a bit small for bigger folks like me, but most doorways are! You'll want to bring a portable step for easier entry and exit. Up top is a skylight with a built-in fan to help cut cold condensation and vent in the heat. On the roof, a solar charger keeps your 12V systems topped up. Now the pièce de résistance – the whole rear flap tilts up on weighted gas struts, forming a little roof overhead, and reveals a nice little kitchen and pantry at the back. It's like a little chuck wagon or maybe an intergalactic galley.
Rear Kitchen and Exterior Features

Pop open the rear hatch and discover a cleverly designed mini kitchen. It features a slide-out dual-burner gas cooktop (with optional plumbing), a sink with pressurised cold water, an elegant benchtop finished in Italian marble laminate, and a 45-litre 12-volt fridge — a surprisingly comprehensive setup for such a compact space. The galley is framed in a warm timber-look laminate, complemented by a petite pantry, handy storage compartments, and clever two-way cupboards that let you pass a morning coffee straight to whoever’s still lounging in bed.
From the outside, the little Pac-Man–style “space invader” has authentic visual charm. The classic teardrop silhouette is highlighted by grey trims that contrast beautifully with the smooth white panels and tasteful decals, giving a contemporary edge to its retro design. Moulded handles and trims, flared wheel arches, and semi-circular LED strip lighting above the doorway lend the Comet an almost whimsical, fairytale appeal.
It’s easy to see why the Mars Comet could win over so many fans. Our test model was fitted with several optional extras, but the chosen add-ons felt practical and well-justified — and the overall package remained very reasonably priced. Add a budget-friendly shower tent and the optional portable hot-water setup, and I’d be more than ready to cruise the cosmos in this delightful little Comet. While awnings are available, they weren’t fitted on our demo unit, so be sure to ask the helpful Mars team about those options.
Step back to the future with the wonderful little Mars Comet teardrop camper and open up a whole solar system of opportunity from this homely little control module. Nanu Nanu Earthpersons!
