We sat down with one owner, Tony from the NSW Central Coast, who purchased a Mars 15 Elite a few years ago. This is his story.
“After five years of caravan ownership, we knew it was time for a change. With two of our kids camping with us less often and preferring swags when they did, we needed something better suited to our evolving lifestyle.”
Key to Tony and his family’s search for a new van was something that was capable of going further off-grid, allowing them to venture into remote locations where ruggedness, reliability, and self-sufficiency were essential.
“That’s what led us to the Caravan and Camping Supershow at Rosehill, the perfect place to compare leading brands, manufacturers, and models all in one spot,” Tony said after spending two full days at the event.
Tony and wife Rebekah spent the first day walking through dozens of vans, taking notes for potential contenders, before returning on day two to deep dive on what they considered their best options.
“That’s when we found ‘the one’,” Tony said. “From the moment we spotted the Mars 15 Elite, it demanded our attention. The dark exterior gave it a tough, adventurous look, setting it apart from the sea of traditional white caravans.”
Intrigued, the duo wandered over to the Mars Campers stand and struck up a conversation with George, one of the team who had come up from Melbourne for the show (and the company’s service manager).
That was the beginning of an hour-long chat about everything from features to customisation options. From there, Tony and Rebekah looked at their other possibilities but just kept coming back to what the Mars 15 Elite offered.
That ‘one’ van had essentially trumped the others for features, functionality, and sheer value for money. What really won them over tough was how well it’s designed for real-world use.
“Inside, it strikes the perfect balance between comfort and practicality. The king-size bed provides plenty of space for us, while the two generous bunks at the rear, one of which is bigger than a king single, ensure our daughter has plenty of room.”
The well-appointed ensuite and shower add an element of luxury they never expected in a hybrid, and Tony calls the slide-out kitchen “brilliant” because it makes cooking outdoors an absolute pleasure.
“With ample water storage, a grey water tank, 480W of solar, 270Ah of lithium batteries, and a 2000W inverter, its off-grid capability is exceptional,” he said. “It’s built to keep us powered up and self-sufficient for extended stays in the wild.”
Tony and Rebekah opted for both an air-conditioner and diesel heater to provide the best of both world’s year-round. “All the luxury in the world wouldn’t matter if the van couldn’t handle rough terrain,” he added.
“Fortunately, this is where the Mars 15 Elite truly shines. With independent suspension, mud tyres, and impressive ground clearance, it’s designed to tackle tracks and trails that would have been impossible in our previous van,” he said.
“Despite its toughness, it tows beautifully. The pop-top design helps reduce drag, and behind our Patrol, it feels stable and predictable, even in windy conditions, something we struggled with in our previous full-height caravan.”
