From humble beginnings: Jawa Caravans
From a modest Sunshine Coast workshop to one of Australia’s most recognised caravan builders, Jawa’s rise is classic grassroots. John and Kaz retired north, bought a struggling operation and turned it into a full-time business.
What began as a slow, hands-on rebuild is now a brand known for solid construction and a service ethic that keeps owners coming back. Jawa’s reputation rests on two pillars: build quality and after-sales care.
Representative Nick Webb is honest about where the brand places its bets: fix the fundamentals, then look after customers when issues surface. That approach has built loyalty: early buyers keep their originals and trade up later rather than walk away.
The Retreat Escape on show at the CreditOne/OnlyVans Awards event proves Jawa’s off-grid intent. It runs a full Victron system with 800W solar and a 3,000W inverter, and the range increasingly features robust electrical setups and hydraulic push-button pop-tops.

Jawa isn’t chasing flash; it’s prioritising systems that let owners get further from mains power and stay longer. The line-up stretches from compact teardrops like the Ridge Runner to full-size family vans such as the Eclipse and Escape, plus new toy haulers.
The brief is simple: offer something for every traveller, whether they’re weekenders or long-haul explorers, novice towers or seasoned nomads. Production and quality control run out of Caloundra, where four warehouses coordinate builds, servicing, and inspections.
Every van moves through multiple checkpoints and a nine-page checklist that must be signed by two staff before delivery. Even display models that tour shows are rechecked before handover. The brand, like others, supports a burgeoning community too.
Regular owner’s weekends (60-plus attendees on the recent NSW getaway) turn customers into advocates. Awards exposure and a 2022 Best Van of the Year nod add momentum. Going forward, Jawa is expanding solar capacity, increasing battery sizes, and rolling out new layouts.
Growth matters, but the promise remains the same - build it right and take care of the people who buy it.
