Evernew E2000 RTX Caravan Review

Evernew says, “Caravans by Craftsmen,” and they have been putting their money where their mouth is since 1963. Melbourne-based Evernew Caravans has an extensive range of pop-tops and caravans from 13’ – 24’ with a virtual plethora of configurations, from highway tourers to serious off-road warriors. If you’re in the market for a strong, robust off-road caravan, this E2000 RTX is a must-see.

The RTX (Rugged Terrain X) is an enormously strong unit with one of the heaviest foundations I have seen on a caravan. It features a G&S built hot dipped 6" x 2" A-frame & chassis with gusseted box section cross members, 50mm chassis riser, galvanised wheel arches, heavy duty rear cut-away and a solid 4" x 2" bumper bar with four stays that also supports the two spare wheels. She displays plenty of underbody protection, including shrouding of the electrical and plumbing, plus checker plate bash plates for the 2 x 95 litre general purpose water tanks, 65 litre dedicated drinking water tank, and 95 litre grey waste.

Heavy Duty Off Road

Combine all of this bravado with premium Cruisemaster ATX independent suspension with stage 4 Firestone airbags & 46mm monotube shockers plus 12" - 4 wheel electric brakes with breakaway; 265/75R 16 cooper AT3 light truck tyres on 16" custom alloy wheels and the Vehicle Components DO45 4.5 tonne off-road coupling and you are building a muscle-bound contender that’s fit for a lifetime.

This chariot weighs in around 3150 kg tare when fully opted as was our demonstrator and hence with a ATM of 4000 Kg needs the full team of horsepower with a maxi RV to tow her safely when loaded for the arena.  It IS a lot of weight for a 21’ caravan, but then it’s a lot of van with plenty of capability and longevity, particularly in harsh terrain. As I said, this is a fully equipped unit, and Evernew does offer weight reduction possibilities with this model.

The reinforced A-frame drawbar supports high-tensile safety chains, a 10mm coupling plate, and all the usual accessories, including an Anderson plug, mains tap, hand brake, and removable jockey wheel. It then progresses to a full-width stone guard with replaceable mesh and mudflaps and a large alloy toolbox complete with a sliding tray on either side, large enough for generators, etc.; the centre box houses twin 9kg gas bottles.

RV Eye Candy

The Evernew E2000 is presented beautifully with its gloss white alloy external panels hosting a traditional composite insulated core with a Meranti frame, and there is an option for silver colouring. She looked a pearl with black checker plate scratch protection all around, highlighted with some attractive decals, and large tinted Dometic Seitz D-Lux double-glazed windows that are complete with built-in flyscreens and block-out blinds.

We find forward access on the “living” side complete with an electric stairwell leading up to the Camec three-point locking security door with stainless steel mesh and keyless entry. Up in front is a handy table and chair cupboard, a fold-down picnic table central, 240V & 12V power & external TV outlets, LED lighting, and a boom box speaker for the rocking Fusion marine Apollo 770 Audio system. I must say how much I loved the Dometic Electric rollout awning – it is so simple. (I don’t know about you, but I find most manual options flimsy, fiddly finger traps!)

The driver’s side has more large windows, all the usual venting and cartridge service outlets, lockable water fillers, power inlet, and an external shower. Combine all this with front & rear LED work lights, high-level LED ancillary stop/tail indicator lamps & midway side indicator lamps for total external illumination options. On top is an Ibis 4 roof-mounted reverse cycle air-conditioner, premium Intellisat S2 Auto Satellite system, and 3 x 150w solar panels, Maxi hatch, skylight hatch, and pressurizing scupper vent. It really is a very complete external presentation of premium accessories.

Step Inside - You'll Love It

Step inside and you will really come alive! You will be delighted by the inviting presentation of layout, finishes, textures, and accessories from 6mm acrylic splash backs in the kitchen and ensuite, genuine leather upholstered dinette seating with slide out footrests, block out curtains with pelmets, gloss ebony cabinet doors with brushed stainless fittings and premium hinges/catches. Then there are the soft-close drawers, faux granite laminate benchtops, and a base white undertone to walls and moldings.

The ensuite is immediately to your left as you enter, with a switch panel for lighting, airbag, and awning controls conveniently to your right. The attractive bathroom features a deluxe one-piece full-height shower, cassette toilet, vanity with a china basin with a flick mixer tap, mirror, and a towel rail. There’s also plenty of elbow room when seated—if you get my drift!

To your immediate right is the café-style dinette with tri-fold table featuring luxurious pillow upholstery and a large window to bring your beautiful campsite to dinner. Overhead is plenty of storage with the main electrical cabinet at one end. Opposite is an exquisite kitchen with premium appliances and fixtures. There’s a Dometic 190Ltr compressor fridge/freezer, a Swift four burner hot plate (+240v) griller, a fan forced oven, a range hood, a microwave, and a 4 kg front load washing machine in the extensive bench and overhead cabinetry. This also houses the entertainment centre with the Fusion head unit next to the microwave and a 24" flat screen TV/ DVD/HD on a swing arm bracket.

You will love the luxury queen bed with its full-height feature bed head. There are no annoying pull-out bolsters, either! Imagine waking up with your loved one in a dream location with the views out of the large windows that flank either side of the bed. It has good access on both sides as well. There’s plenty of storage with more overhead cabinets, a wardrobe, a bedside table, and drawers on either side, and even low night lighting for those middle-of-the-night excursions.

The bed base pivots up easily on well-weighted gas struts to reveal not only a large storage cavity, but the impressive Enerdrive electronic supply system.  To quote “Enerdrive is Australia’s leading lithium-ion battery supplier,” and this most impressive array includes a 300AH Lithium-ion battery with AC charger, DC/DC Charger, 40amp solar regulator, 3000/120 pure sinewave inverter/charger, and ePRO monitor.

Other important electricals include an external portable solar panel input plug, plenty of 240v double & 12v internal power points, Sphere wireless lighting system, a great selection of suitable LED ceiling lights and reading lights plus the soft floor night lights, Wi-Fi System, 240v earth leakage circuit breaker and all electrical installations are compliant with AS3000 & AS3001.  For added safety, there are fused 12V electrical circuits, twin rear vision camera, car screen & heavy-duty interconnect cable, Gas leak detector, CO2 Detector, Dexter Stability Control (DSC), fire extinguisher & smoke detector
plus the WI TI caravan alarm & GPS security system.

The Verdict

Evernew has combined a virtual plethora of other features to make this mobile off-road apartment a luxury home, including pocket padding storage, premium speakers, including 4 x internal and 2 x external, a very welcome Webasto diesel heater, gas/ electric hot water system with temperature limiting valve, gas bayonet, and water filter system, all together in a very capable unit at a competitive price.

You have the strength of Hercules in this sturdy chariot by a well-known and regarded company that has been well favoured by history. But there’s no going back in time for this progressive contender. So maybe it’s time to make your own mark in history in the Evernew E2000 RTX.
