News that Volkswagen has announced a collaboration with Aussie recreational vehicle manufacturer Jayco to create a Crafter Kampervan might just be a marriage made in heaven.

Pitched as a mighty lifestyle vehicle, it will become the halo of VW’s evolving van range, and is the latest collaboration for the car maker, following on from the special California Edition of the Caddy and Multivan.

Backed by a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty, the Kampervan is a living-and-sleeping quarters version of the Crafter, and will be available in three grades from July, including the identically named base model.

A Style and All-Terrain variant will also be offered, with the latter featuring Seikel off-road equipment. At 6.8m long and 2m wide, the Crafter Kampervan contains all the fixtures needed to make life on the road possible.

It has 4MOTION all-wheel-drive, and will seat four, sleeping for up to three. Multiple dining and seating areas, as well as fresh and wastewater tanks are also included, along with a full internal bathroom, with a toilet and shower.

The kitchen includes a two-burner gas cooktop, microwave, fridge, sink, fresh water, ample storage and bench space. If that hasn’t already piqued your interest, there’s also reverse cycle air-conditioning, TV and DVD.

A stereo with internal and external speakers also features, and it has a Lithium house battery with additional solar, diesel heating and a hot water system, for those chilly nights.

Ambience is also catered for with internal/external LED lighting, as well as an outdoor awning. The Crafter Kampervan has been extensively tested at the Anglesea Proving Ground in Victoria, ensuring it’s been tested and tuned for local conditions.

It’s set to be available in seven colours, including four two-tone offerings. Customers can register interest in the Volkswagen Crafter Kampervan on Volkswagen’s website.
